Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon, Portugal)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The one in Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon (Portugal). Definitely in the beaten track – this is one of the most popular places in Lisbon, mentioned in every tourist guide and visited by people from all over the world. The snapshot was taken last July,  in one of the hottest days of the year. When the architects of the building decided for the water streams and the canopies, they certainly understood how hot can it be… Even I dropped my purse in the lockers and got wet.

Initially built to accommodate the European Presidency, the CCB eventually become the largest building with cultural facilities in Portugal, being used conferences, exhibitions and artistic events, such as opera, ballet and symphony concerts. It is also the home of the Berardo Collection, representative of the fine arts of the 20th century and early 21st century, especially European and American art.

In one of the aisles of the building, a lovely outside cafe overlooking the Tagus and the other side of the city. It is one of my perfect moments, too – I just love to pick a book in the nearest bookstore and sit there for the afternoon…
